NYFW SS16 Countdown
NYFW SS16 Countdown has officially begun! I’ll be on a plane tomorrow to NYC to be front row and center for all the action. So far, everything is going smoothly. All the camera gear is packed, my new MacBook Pro and iPhone are working perfectly, clothes/shoes/toothbrush and towel are stowed, and I managed to get a hair cut, too! The only surprises I want to have are on the runway or a huge publishing offer or both!
Here are a few of my last minute favorites:
Opting to debut his new collection in New York instead of Paris, I’m excited to see what Riccardo Tisci has in store for us. His decision to ‘open up the shows’ by giving away hundreds of tickets to the public is noble and long overdue in the industry. He has always strived for accessibility to those who feel that couture is for a select few. I predict this to be the noted show of the season.
The first major New York runway show I ever saw was Vivienne Tam, so I’m biased, but with good reason. She has consistently created works of elegant simplicity and refinement. Truly the queen of ‘East meets West’, Ms. Tam’s shows are nothing less than perfect.
Best known for styling Lady Gaga, Brandon Maxwell is debuting is his ready to wear collection at NYFW SS16 to the thrill of adoring fans everywhere. Rumor has it that his show is scheduled later in the evening at infamous Mr. Chow’s. Look for luscious evening wear and a start studded audience.
Finally, these two power house designers are celebrating ten years in the industry and are famous for extravagant shows and the wildest afterparties. Both Wang and Lim have emerged has luminaries in the fashion world with their eponymous lines Alexander Wang and 3.1 Phillip Lim, respectively. I am a great admirer of each designer, so it’s impossible to choose between the two of them. I’ll choose both!
